More Space Mysteries I have talked about rogue astronomical bodies drifting through space and even between galaxies. In truth I am sort of fascinated by the idea. There have been some theories lately on the subject and even new evidence. One of the theories states there could be life on a rogue planet even though there is no star to warm it because there might be an internal process heating the planet. Wouldn’t that be something, a planet with life on it just traveling by itself across the vastness of space? It makes me wonder if it could ever be possible for an entire solar system or even part of one to be kicked out of its orbit. What if a star was blasted out of orbit and had planets orbiting it, would it be possible for that star to drag along all or some of the planets? Scientists do say it is possible to destabilize our solar system, if a star would knock Neptune off its orbit by 0.1%. I would like to say it might not have to be a star getting too close, it could be some other massive object or even a rogue black hole. Recently it was discovered there are rogue black holes which also travel through space. A discovery was made which proves rogue stars are much more plentiful than we suspected. I am talking about dead stars in this instance. An area has been discovered in our galaxy where many dead stars are located. It has been mapped. Some have collapsed into black holes, other into neutron stars. There are those however which have been blasted out of the galaxy and become rogue objects. We used to think this event was very rare, but when this area was examined, it was found about one third of all these objects had been kicked out of the galaxy. That is a lot of rogue objects. This area has been found to extend far higher than the thickness of the Milky Way. What is this telling us? I think it says the space between galaxies contains many more rogue objects than we first suspected. What could this mean for the distant future of earth? Earth will probably be swallowed up by the dying sun which expands to absorb it, but there is a possibility that could be as high as about 30% that the collapsed sun, when that happens could become a rogue object and even cause some of the remaining planets to also become rogue planets if we think the same forces which affected the area in our galaxy which blew out those objects could do this to us. There is much in space which cannot yet be explained and even on our home planet. Did you ever wonder why the temperatures on earth vary so much from each other? Think about it, the same sun heats the entire planet so some people wonder how some areas can be so cold and some so hot. It can even be hot in one area and much hotter in an adjoining desert. It can seem strange, can’t it? Some places do not receive as much of the sun’s energy due to the shape of the planet. The rays are concentrated more on the equator because of the earth’s round shape, and as we move further away from the equator, the rays are spread out more until we reach the poles and there are either much weaker rays or longer nights, or both. If an intelligent race was advanced enough, would they be able to moderate this situation so the entire planet could receive an equal amount of energy from its star? It could be possible if the aliens could figure out how to reflect more sunlight to the areas to bring up their temperatures and cut down a little on the sun received in the hottest areas on earth. This might be accomplished with some sort of reflective plasma positioned in space or even mechanically if they figured out how to build a big enough sun reflector or reflectors. There may be a lesson for us in protecting ourselves from radiation in future space flights. A study was conducted on the frogs in the Chernobyl area who were subjected to intense radiation. It was found they had turned black from green and their bodies are more resistant to radiation. They are now protected by an increase of Melanin in their bodies. The Melanin caused the dark color and is known to be more protective against radioactive energy and can neutralize ionized molecules inside the cell. If enough of it is in the body it protects from radiation and increases the chance of survival. Maybe someday human tests will be conducted and the results might help us in our travels through space. Scientists think this was evolutionary in the frogs and is due to frogs with Melanin mating with other frogs with it and strengthening the Melanin. A fast radio signal in space has some astronomers at SETI thinking they might be from an intelligent source. SETI is the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence. What has excited them so much is the fact these bursts are the longest ever detected. It is not known exactly where they are coming from. There have been others of this type detected before, hundreds to be exact. It is believed by most scientists these signals are the result of explosions in space. It is not known what causes these explosions, but they had to be extremely powerful to travel across the universe. One of the great mysteries of space is how big is it? Many think we can see objects within a few hundred thousand light years of the edge of space. We really don’t know if there is anything past the point of what we believe is the edge or not. Some say there has to be something because they believe there is some very powerful source pulling all the objects in space to it, but not everyone believes this. There are some who think more space is entering our universe and forcing the galaxies to be pushed apart. Space itself is a mystery. Those who think more space is entering our universe contend there might be a rip in time and space and space from somewhere else is pouring through like the flood over a broken dam. As we get into space more often and travel further, I am sure we will encounter even more mysteries. It is going to be a very exciting time for our grandchildren and their children and only get more exciting as time goes by.
