Paranormal Talk

Not everyone considers the paranormal to be the same thing. Some people think of it as being the study of ghosts and spirits, others include UFOs, aliens and still others include miracles in the mix. They argue the reason to classify something as paranormal is the fact it is beyond human understanding. UFO investigators would argue UFOs are not in this category, because they are piloted by aliens and many people today realize it is inevitable that we will find other life in this vast universe. I have to agree with them on this point. Others would say then why do many of the paranormal events include UFOs and why do many UFO events include the paranormal? It seems to me this is just another way to ridicule those people who believe in UFOs, because the one thing which is ridiculed even more than UFOs are spirits and ghosts so what better way to increase the ridicule factor than by combining the paranormal with UFOs?

Sometimes things which look innocent can go terribly wrong. A man on Long Island believed a UFO crashed on Long Island. This is the same person who was involved with the Long Island UFO Network in the 1980s. Most of the UFO investigators are just ordinary people who believe UFOs are from other worlds and devote their spare time to tracking down sightings and getting witness testimony. This man was different, unfortunately he was mentally disturbed. According to Newsday, the local paper for Long Island, New York the man was so into UFOs and conspiracy, he decided some officials on the island were hiding facts from him and he began to believe if he killed them he would have a better chance of contacting the aliens. He had claimed he saw a large UFO fly above a police station and explode. He went on to say he believed the aliens from the crash were being kept at Brookhaven National Laboratory. This guy even made a video which he claimed showed the crash. Needless to say when he was arrested and put on trial he was found unfit to proceed and sent to a mental institution.

There is a place on Long Island which is said to exhibit a lot of paranormal activity. No I am not talking about the Amityville Horror House or one of the many empty buildings associated with mental institutions even though many believe they are haunted. I am talking about Montauk Manor. The Montauketts are an Indian tribe which used to live on the very spot the Montauk Manor was built on. This was on top of a hill. When this tribe fought with another the bottom of the hill became known as Massacre Valley due to the slaughter which took place. Years later this was the same site of many more deaths when Theodore Roosevelt returned with his Rough Riders in 1895. Many of them died there from yellow fever. In 1927 the Montauk Manor opened and ever since this time there have been many reports of ghosts and strange happenings in and around the area.

Sometimes you can be condemned just because of what type of house you live in. There is a red brick house which has a very gothic look to it, including what looks like another house attached to it and a cupola on the roof. There is no doubt some people would feel uncomfortable passing by this place at night, but was that any reason to name it the Hell house? This home is also located on Long Island and it has one of the strangest bay windows I have ever seen. It bulges out with 24 small windows which look like teeth. This make the entire setup look like a mouth with the upper floor resembling two eyes with a smaller bay window in between, almost like a nose. The sidewalk is a maroon color, but some say it reminds them of blood. The house’s looks have caused all sorts of stories to be told about it and its residents. A lot of people claim the residents are Satan worshipers, but this is untrue. They are a normal Christian family. I find it amazing how easily people are influenced by the unusual. It makes me wonder how many people were killed, because they were accused of being witches, just because they lived in a strange place.

If you ask people which are the most haunted places in the world you will get many different answers. A lot of the answers will be based on what the places were used for or what they look like. It does make one wonder why people would think the weirder a place looks the more it is liable to be haunted. Are they saying ghosts like weird places? This seems to fit in to the fact most paranormal investigators also seem to turn off the lights when doing an investigation, why? If a supposedly haunted place is indeed haunted, wouldn’t it be haunted whether the lights were on or off? Could it be a lot of these investigators want to make the place look spookier on film than it actually is? Big places do look more ominous in the dark than in the light, wouldn’t you agree?

If one does believe in the paranormal, then it stands to reason the type of place they would think had more of a chance of being haunted would be one where a lot of people died. That is one of the reasons the battlefield at Gettysburg is so favored by paranormal investigators as is abandoned hospitals and prisons. There are certainly a lot of stories about paranormal activity at many of these places, but it always comes down to one thing, witness testimony. I say this because photography cannot be verified as genuine. One of the best stories I heard was about Gettysburg and a couple who went into a building and witnessed what they thought was a civil war reenactment of a hospital stay. They said doctors were running back and forth and the beds were full of patients and nurses dressed in old garb were attending to them. They left the place quite impressed. As they got into the street they met a man who either worked there or knew a lot about the place. He was friendly and asked them how they liked Gettysburg. They said they loved the hospital reenactment. The man said there was no reenactment in that building it was an old post office. They all went back into the building and there was nothing there but the old post office. Figure that one out.
