Interesting News January 13, 2024 There is a new bill being proposed in congress. It is designed to fill in the holes in UAP reporting. It is getting closer to allowing UAP sighting to be reported to government agencies. This bill if approved would allow civilian pilots to report UAPs to the Federal Aviation Agency. The FAA would then share the sighting reports with the Pentagon. It is not clear to me if it is only for commercial airline pilots or all pilots. As I have said many times we still have not only an awful lot to learn about the universe and how it works, but some of the things we think we know could be very wrong. There was a megastructure discovered in space. It is 1.3 billion light years across. It was shaped like a ring. It is defying the cosmological principle. This principle states above a certain scale, the universe looks identical in every direction. All I can think of is we sure have a lot to learn about the universe and I still think what is thought of as the end of the universe at around 13.5 billion light years away could just be the beginning of another universe or just more of the same on the other side. Another strange object was seen by the James Webb telescope. It was a very early galaxy. This in itself is not unusual, but the fact it had a black hole at its center means we could be wrong about how black holes form. Scientists are now thinking black holes might be formed from clouds of primordial gas. Prior to this discovery it was believed a black hole was formed from the death of a massive star. It was thought when the star uses up all its fuel, the core becomes unstable and is caused to collapse inward by gravity and the outer layers are blown away. Remember the container which contained the samples of asteroid material which NASA was not able to open months ago? Well, they have been working on the problem all this time and have finally got the container open. They had to invent new tools to get the job done. It is hard to believe it would take so long for them to do this. I hope all the hard work was worth it and they find something interesting. Thanks to cooperation between more organizations, SETI will be able to monitor more stars for the search for extraterrestrial life. SETI was joined by COSMIC which uses what is known as the Very Large Array or VLA. These are many movable radio telescopes which can contain all or part of the radio telescopes. It increases the study by SETI from thousands of stars being monitored at once, to hundreds of thousands. Some say it might even reach millions of stars. I guess we will have to wait and see on that point. Solvents are a substance that dissolves another to form a solution which can be used for different purposes. Scientists are working on them because they want to create building materials from lunar and Martian rock dust. So far about a dozen candidates have been found. If the scientists can find the solvents for this task, bases will be able to be built right from the lunar and planetary material. Other solvents may be developed which will make mining asteroids more practical and maybe make it possible to manufacture objects off planet. It is expected 3D printing of these materials into structures will be conducted. I was sorry to see the American moon landing program being put off for at least a year. The head of NASA came out and said we will still beat the Chinese there. We have ALREADY beat the Chinese in 1969 and I don’t think we should forget that. Also, I would hate to see that statement about beating the Chinese back to the moon come back to bite us and make NASA look foolish. I have heard politicians say things so many times that just made them look foolish down the road when they said something would or wouldn’t happen and it did. Better to say nothing. There are private companies starting to take interest in the search for life on other worlds. I am not necessarily talking about intelligent life, but that would be something if it was discovered, especially on a planet we never suspected. I remember someone who’s name escapes me, saying extraterrestrials told him they came from Venus. Anyway, a private mission is being planned to Venus. Some have said there is a possibility of life existing in the clouds. I wouldn’t expect anything bigger than a microbe if it exists, but I certainly could be wrong. It is thought the material in the clouds might be able to host some type of life. The development of robots which will be able to melt the ice on Europa and Enceladus continues. It is hoped when the time comes the robots will be able to melt their way in the hidden oceans which rest under the ice. NASA has high hopes for life in those oceans. If there is life there will it be similar to the life in our oceans, or will it look like something completely different? The idea of putting a solar powered array in space is being pitched again. The proponent of the scheme said he would be able to get 8 times more power with the space array than if you had it on earth. He also went on to say the beam of power which would go down to the earth would be safe. In a very modest test, they said they got proof of concept. Energy was able to be beamed down to earth in the test but it was minuscule, but was there. This idea was thought about in the past but was economically unfeasible. Harnessing the power of the sun in space means the flow of power would be constant, not problematic as on earth because of clouds and such. Scientists are exploring the idea of whether it is feasible to fire nukes into space to divert asteroids or destroy them. I can’t help but think this is a very bad idea. What if the rocket carrying the nuke crashed back on earth? I know it would probably be unarmed until it got out of the earth’s gravity, but still, it would be dangerous. Another problem is countries launching nukes using asteroids as an excuse and doing it for some other nefarious purpose. We shouldn’t be so cavalier with our nukes.
