News 23 February 2023 An incredible breakthrough in a year’s long study has been announced and it has to do with aging. Scientists state they have been able to turn back aging in mice, but also make them age faster and it seems to be in a way which is not only less complicated than first thought, and is said to be as easy as flipping a switch. They are said to have accomplished this with epigenetics. Epigenetic changes do not change the DNA sequence. Of course, the next question will be can this be accomplished with humans? As amazing as this sounds it is true. Quantum magnets are capable of switching states trillions of times per second at room temperature. This has excited scientists because if this can be used to create nonvolatile memory devices, they could have a thousand times better performance than current ones. While this was known about for a while, there were problems reading that memory. That may be a thing of the past and reading it might be so fast it will seem instantaneous. Did you ever wonder why your laptop battery was low or discharged when you haven’t used the laptop? Many wonder about this. Now scientists are telling us there is a certain tape used inside Lithium Ion batteries when they are manufactured, and this tape turns out to be the source of some of these discharges. Look for a change in manufacturing and less battery discharges in the future. A new study of the Nazca Lines in Peru was conducted and the results were not what we think they might have been. The lines are giant carvings in the soil which most say can only be appreciated from the air. It was thought they were created for the sky gods to see. The study states they may be some form of communication placed in the Nazca desert. It is believed they indicate pathways and valleys. The ancient Egyptians were very innovative. Over the years, they invented some very useful things which were the basis for some of the things we have today. They developed glassmaking and we know this because we have found many glass vessels from them. Their mathematics were incredible and we know this because of the precision of their building techniques. They even had basic medicines. As incredible as it sounds, they were the ones who developed the 365 day calendar. They even had a way to know what land belonged to whom after the Nile River overflowed the banks. It may be small and may be weak at the moment, but researchers have created an optical tractor beam. If you are fans of Star Trek, you know exactly what I am talking about. A laser has been used to pull a macroscopic object. This is not the first time a tractor beam was used to pull an object, but it is the first time it was strong enough to pull a macroscopic one. It had to be done however in an environment with less pressure than normal atmospheric pressure. When a 2,000 year old cemetery was discovered, it led to a new discovery. Archaeologists in Siberia found the buried were from a previously unknown culture. They had thought they were digging into a hill, but it turned out to be a kurgan, which is a raised mass with burial chambers. The burial objects, which were also deposited there were also helpful in finding out what cultures the people were not from. NASA is looking for ideas for faster space travel, which we desperately need, and ideas for a seaplane to be sent to Titan, a moon of Saturn. They are willing to pay. NASA will fund unusual concepts. The seaplane would have to be able to fly through the atmosphere on Titan which is basically nitrogen and methane, and also be able to travel on the ocean. The idea of pellet beam propulsion is being suggested which would allow speeds of 74 miles a second. Light travels at over 186,000 miles per second. We need more speed. A woman in North Carolina exhibited extraordinary luck. Most of us would consider it impossible to win the lottery twice. I am talking about million dollar prizes. This woman didn’t, so when she won the prize of a million dollars on a scratch off, she kept playing. Low and behold a few months later she won a two million dollar prize. Hydrogen powered cars could be more feasible than even electric cars because they produce no pollution at the exhaust. A new catalyst has been invented which allows for a ten times jump in efficiency in splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. While this is a big jump, it is only rated at 9 percent efficiency. A plus however, is it is powered by the sun. The James Webb space telescope made some incredible discoveries in 2022. Many new galaxies were discovered. The telescope is said to be capable of collecting enough light from distant objects to tell their composition and how they move. Webb has captured the first direct image of an exoplanet. It also captured ripples around the Wolf-Rayet star. It found the most distant galaxies ever seen. It examined the atmosphere of an exoplanet. There were also other firsts. Every once in a while, we hear a scientist suggesting humans are an evolving race. It has been announced scientists have found 155 unknown genes which prove it. The question is what are we evolving into? Some believe Gray aliens, those guys that abduct people, are us from the future. I guess we have to wait and see what happens. Things are always being found in Egypt and this time is no exception. There is a temple known as the Temple of Tapozeris Magna, west of Alexandria. A huge tunnel was found under the temple which runs for over a mile. It is 6 1/2 feet high. There were coins bearing the face of Queen Cleopatra and Alexander the Great found there, along with statues of the goddess Isis. There is a hope there is some relationship between the tunnel and the burial place of the queen. It just so happens the temple was important during the time of Cleopatra which is giving hope for the discovery of her tomb. A graveyard was found in England. This is not an ordinary one, but one containing Mammoths, Wooly Rhinos, and Hyenas. The bones which were found date back 30,000 to 60,000 years ago. It was found in the southern county of Devon.
