Disappearing Structures, Civilizations and People There are things that disappear without a trace which have yet to be explained and may never be. It can be people, entire civilizations and even structures. If you think large structures cannot disappear than let me tell you about one that did. There was a very large underwater observatory at the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It had a name, Boknis Ech. In the year 2016 on the night of August 21st the signal stopped. When an investigation took place nothing of the observatory was ever found. There are several theories on what happened. They range from the usual alien theories to pirates taking the observatory to sell the metal. We may never know the real story. A huge ship which carried fuel was a U.S. Navy freighter. It was named the USS Cyclops; you may have heard about it. It has been spoken about many times. As it sailed through the Bermuda Triangle it disappeared. No trace of the ship has ever been found. Again, there are many theories on what happened to it. The Bermuda Triangle is associated in folklore with aliens. It is said by some scientists that methane bubbles may have lessened the buoyancy and the ship sunk. There are also theories pirates may have captured it. Remember the steel monolith which was found in the desert in Utah? There were many theories about where it came from, but it was certainly man made as evidenced by the construction and bolts holding it. One witness came forth and said he believed an artist he knew created it, but nothing more was heard about it until one day it just disappeared. Other steel monoliths have appeared in other places and they have also disappeared. Is the same monolith being moved to other locations or are there more of them, and what is their purpose? One thing not many people will be familiar with is the fact there are reports of houses disappearing and sometimes blinking back into existence. I know this sounds impossible but the witnesses don’t think so. In the 1800s there was a report of a house which seemed to turn up in different places in Suffolk, England. A farmer reported that in 1860 as he was bailing hay, he suddenly felt a chill and then saw a red brick house appear. As he watch he claimed the house then faded into nothingness. Over the years the house was seen by others and in 1912 the house appeared in the same spot as where the farmer had first seen it. This time it was his great-grandson who saw it. It had become very cold and he had heard a great swishing sound before the house appeared. The house was then said to come with a fog and again faded out of existence. In 1926 it was seen by a teacher and her student and when she returned it was gone. She had gone to the same area where it was originally seen. In 1940 the house appeared again. There is a street in Liverpool, England where people have claimed to see buildings disappearing, changing and coming back. It is said to be caused by time slips. Many people have claimed to have watched the landscape morph back to the 1950s and 1960s. It is said sometimes in only lasts for a few seconds and other times longer. A man and his wife went to Bold Street and he went off while the wife went to a bookstore. When he came out of the store he was in, he went to look for his wife, but noticed something was wrong. Some of the signs on the buildings were of stores that no longer existed. Just then a truck with the name of an extinct business went by and blew its horn, it was one of those antique sounding horns. To top all this off he noticed people on the street were dressed the same way like they did before World War II. When he got to the book store where his wife went, it was a store selling handbags and such. He went in and it became a book shop again. The man had been a police officer and was not a believer in the paranormal. While I have talked about disappearing structures there are so many other things which disappear. The Anasazi were the famous cliff dwellers. They built their homes high up on cliffs in the desert. No one knows exactly why, but the guess is they were trying to create a secure spot to defend from an enemy. It is true it would have been hard for any enemy back then to get into their stronghold. That is not the most mysterious thing about them however. The most mysterious thing is where did they go? They disappeared and we have never been able to figure out what happened to them. A similar disappearance happened on Easter Island. A thriving civilization existed there as evidenced by the huge statues which were found. There are all sorts of stories of what happened to them, but no one knows for sure. They were the Rapa Nui, an aboriginal Polynesian race. One of the reasons we do not know what happened to them is the fact the writing they left has defied translation. It is a system of glyphs and it is even possible it is not writing at all, but something else.
