Missing and Literally Disappearing People Did you ever wonder about all those people who vanish every year? There are a lot of people who vanished and just seem to not exist anymore. This is crazy enough, but there are cases of people who disappeared while other people were watching and never reappeared again. While this phenomenon seems to only have been recorded in the last 300 years or so, it may have been going on for thousands of years, since the skill of writing was not known to a lot of people before that. Another problem is what about all those people who disappear when there is no one around to see them. There has been a rumor which has circulated for a long time and I hesitate to talk about it since I have railed against this type of thing before, which is blaming extraterrestrials for something, because we don’t understand it. The rumor is we are being abducted and experimented on and in the process killed. Another theory states people who disappear are being sucked into another dimension and other dimensions are touching ours along with other universes and when a solid contact is made, poof we are gone if we are in the area they touch. An early account tells the story of an elderly man who lived in England in the town of Shepton Mallet. His name was Owen Parfitt. The poor guy could only get out of bed with the aid of his sister, because of a disease he had which disabled him. He used to sit by the door in a chair. This was his normal day. One day when he was in his usual spot, his sister who was his nurse, was busy around the house. It got chilly and she covered him with a coat and later when she went to get him the chair was empty and only the coat remained. She never saw him or heard about him again. What happened to this guy? He certainly didn’t run off. Even if he somehow managed to crawl out of the chair he should have been easy to find. Many people had come and gone that day and they all saw him sitting in the chair. A search was organized by the authorities, but no trace of Parfitt was ever found. This made a lot of people uneasy and some said the devil had taken him. Even when disappearances don’t take place in front of others there have been disappearances which are so strange they can’t ever be solved. In 1935 two scientists named Martin Sheflis and Bill Dayson were working with the English explorer Vivian Fush. They left to go on a trip to an island containing a native village and never returned. Fush questioned the locals about the island and he was told people used to come from the village on the island years ago and visited relatives on the mainland and traded. When people were sent to the island to search for the two scientists they were astounded to find a deserted village, one which looked like people were taken unexpectedly. Rotting food was still on some of the tables in the village, the belongings were still in the huts and all indications show the residents were not expecting to leave. Their disappearance was shocking and the two scientists were never found. The island was considered cursed and none of the native people would ever go there again. In 1873 an even more bizarre event took place. James Worson was a shoemaker in Lamington Spa, England. One day while he was with his friends he must have been feeling frisky, because he told them he had the ability to run from Lamington Spa to Coventry. Coventry was about 16 miles away. His friends decided to take him up on the bet. Why not, this would have been quite a stunt for an ordinary man to accomplish. Worson got ready for his run, but his friends were suspicious so they decided to follow him in a cart pulled by a horse. Everything went as Worson said it would for the first few miles, but during his run and has his friend watched he tripped and never hit the ground. This was because in the middle of his fall, he just disappeared in front of them never to be seen again. One has to wonder, are there places where people are known to disappear from a lot? The answer is yes there are quite a few places which are know for people disappearing in them. One is the British Columbian section of Yellowed Highway. There are at least 18 women who have vanished along this road. The disappearances started in 1975, but the girl’s body was found later. Many of the women have never been found. Another area is the Bennington Triangle in southwestern Vermont. Between the years 1945 and 1950 five people have disappeared there. One was a female hiker who was with other hikers and yet no one saw what happened to her. It is said a bus was traveling along this area when one of the passengers disappeared. No trace of the hiker or bus passenger were ever found. A book titled “Missing 411” was written about the U.S. National Park system which told of over 1,100 people who disappeared in them. A very strange disappearance occurred in 1815 at a prison at Welchselmunde in Prussia. A man named Diderici was serving a ten-year sentence. He tried to steal the identity of a dead man by dressing in his clothes and wig and then going to the bank to withdraw a large some of the dead man’s money. A time came when the guards were leading Diderici through the exercise yard in chains. He was in line with a lot of other prisoners. As the parade of prisoners was marching through the yard other prisoners began to say Diderici was fading before their eyes. Eventually only the empty chains were left. Over 30 eyewitnesses had seen this guy vanish according to them. There are weird and eerie things that happen every day. This is just no explanation for some of them. These strange things have been going on since the beginning of our habitation of this planet. When I used to interview people, I heard some really strange stories. I guess that is what helps to make life interesting. |
