Strange Things On Display There are some very strange things on display all over the world. You have to wonder why on some of them. There is a place in Nebraska which claims to have created their Stonehenge. As we all know, Stonehenge is composed of some very heavy rocks, some are standing and some top them. The Stonehenge in Nebraska is very different, it is made of cars. It is said the cars are in the exact same positions as the stones are. Why would anyone think this was a good idea, and further more who would want to see it, and yet they get tourists? There are a couple of different places which claim to have the biggest ball of twine. Forgive me for saying this, but why should I care? It is said the winner is a ball of twine located in Kansas. Their ball of twine is said to have a diameter of 8.06 feet and a height of 10.83 feet. I would have thought a much bigger ball of twine could be created using modern tools. Anyway. if you want to see it just get in the car and drive to Cawker City. There must be someone who would want this or they wouldn’t sell it, there is a taxidermy beetle planning a banjo for sale at Etsy for ONLY $90 which you can put on display in your own home. I don’t know why anyone would want to, but it is for sale there. Personally, I didn’t think anyone would perform taxidermy on a bug, but there you go. What do you think would be the subject of the most unlikely museum? Yes, I know, there are a lot of strange things on display, but I bet you would never guess there is a toilet paper museum. You can find toilet paper with all different themes, if anyone cares about that for this product. The history of toilet paper can be a little interesting when you find out it took quite a while for companies to figure out how to get all the splinters of wood out of it. Can you imagine using that paper? Ouch! When the toilet paper crisis hit us, the museum owner was very worried and had to protect his displays. To go to the museum, you would have to travel to Kyiv, Ukraine. It might not have survived being in a war torn country. One of the interesting things about the Museum of Natural History in New York City is it actually has two display areas. One is for the public and the other is only shown to special guests. I don’t know if they just don’t have the room to put some of the objects out on display for the public, or there is some reason they want to hide some of these things. I have been there many times, and I have to admit they are one of the best museums in this country. While there are some things which are creepy, there is a display of a stuffed monkey hanging from a tree which just seems to creep me out. I think it is because of the expression it has, but that just might be me. The monkey was also featured in the movie about the museum, The Night at the Museum. One thing which seems to be even more creepy are displays of long dead people and/or their bones. The Paris Catacombs is one of these places. It is said to be at least 81 miles of tunnels and people have been known to get lost. There are skulls and human bones everywhere. There are so many, entire walls are made of them. Of course, there is more to them than just bones, but it seems this is what some people want to see. It has been estimated the Paris Catacombs contain the remains of at least six million souls. Who would want to put salt and pepper shakers on display and who would make a detour to go to that place? This is actually a place named the Museum of Salt & Pepper Shakers. While this seems impossible, the museum is said to contain 22,000 different ones. It is said an archaeologist got very interested in the subject and started the museum. The museum is located in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, in case you want to go there. I think the next museum would be one of the last places I would want to go. It is the Mutter Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The reason I say this is, the museum is a medical museum and some of the displays could be very upsetting. There are many skulls on display, along with skeletons, also many deformations. The museum is part of the College of Physicians. The next museum I have mixed feelings about. It is the Museum of Food and Culture. In one thought I have, I think it might be a little interesting, but on the other hand would it be interesting enough to travel to it? They say their goal is to show the connections between food, history, culture and each other. When I tried to find out where they were located, I could only find a website address for them. It was info@museumoffoodand culture.org. Would you travel to see old bread? If you would, get ready to travel to Germany’s Bread Museum. It has plenty of displays. It is said to have over 18,000 of them. If you would travel to see bread, you are going to be disappointed because there is said to be no actual bread in the Bread Museum. To me, that is what makes this even odder. So, what is in the museum? There are plenty of books, art, equipment for making bread and other things. The museum is in Ulm, Germany. One museum which is located in Portland, Maine has something which would never attract me. It is the Umbrella Cover Museum. It is hard for me to believe someone would create a museum with this as its theme. I can hardly think of something less interesting; I don’t know about you. Yes, this certainly would be on my skip list. There seems to be a lot of private collectors all over the world who believe what they collect would be interesting to others. Some of them may be correct, but others who create private museums to display some of the things they collect surprise me. I personally would never go out of my way to see some of this stuff, though in general I like museums.
