Weird Things Things just seem to be getting weirder every day. There are plenty of weird things around us. Scientists have just announced we live in a flat universe. They claim they have taken extensive measurements and the universe is not shaped like a bubble like most scientists think. The same scientists are claiming this explains how dark energy is pushing our universe outward. When the term flat is used, it doesn’t mean flat as in a piece of paper. It means while the universe may have expanded along a plain, that expansion is far less up and down and at some point, might not even be happening anymore. What does all this say about the theory of the Big Bang? We tend to think of explosions as expanding in all directions, so it will be interesting to see if the Big Bang theory is eventually going to be replaced by something else. Some scientists are convinced most of what we see in the universe is nothing more than a hologram. Over the last few years this has been repeated by quite a few of them, but what does this really mean to us? There are several theories about this and just because I am mentioning the holographic theory does not mean I agree with it. One theory states there is a universal computer program being run by a computer which is so powerful it can either create or alter the universe and we would consider the person running it God. Well I have to say I don’t think God needs a computer. Another theory states some of what we see is caused by gravitational lensing. This has been proven and what it means is there are areas of space which act like projectors and cast images of things to other places and they could be many images of the same object. It is my belief this is what is really happening. We know gravitational lensing exists because we have seen examples of it. There has even been an example found of a galaxy acting as a lens. There is an area located in the Mapimi Biosphere Reserve in the Chihuahuan desert of northern Mexico. Scientists do not understand why this region has been causing electronic malfunctions for many years. It has been given a name which is the Zone of Silence. The area is not very big, being only 31 miles long. It got its strange nickname when in 1966 an oil company which was exploring the area could not get a radio signal. Not only do radio signals crash, but compass needles go crazy. Several large meteors have crashed in this area in the twentieth century. I am not saying this is the cause of the problems, because the cause is unknown, but perhaps they have at least something to do with it. Wernher Von Braun who became the head of NASA, had investigated the area for twenty-eight days. He was there because of a rocket which we launched crashed there. Apparently, he believed whatever was going on here was very important because a railway was built which allowed the wreckage to be taken directly to Huston, Texas. There are forts built of stone all over Europe. The building started around 700 BC to 300 BC. What makes these particular forts stand out is the fact the part of their walls have been fused into glass. Scientists would love to know how this happened. Air bubbles have been found inside the glass which indicate the original rock was subject to some incredibly high temperatures. These forts are known as the vitrified forts of Europe and most of them are in Scotland. The people of that era had no way to produce temperatures that high and yet we see the evidence showing they were produced. When we talk about the geoglyphs in Nazca Peru, we are talking about huge carvings in the earth which can only be seen from the air. The area has become very well-known and yet there is another area which is only 25 miles away which also has some very incredible geoglyphs. They are known as the Palpa Lines. Not much is known about them except for the fact they were created by the Paracas culture. It is assumed they were created for the gods to see since they were only viewable from above but that is about as much as we know. The Minoan culture was composed of ancient ordinary sized humans. At one point they were far more advanced however than the rest of the world. They had apartment buildings with running water. The palace of their king was known as the greatest achievement of the time, it was the Palace of Knossos. There is a mystery about the Minoans and no one has been able to solve it. Gigantic battle axes have been found which are far too big and heavy to have been wielded by a human. Archaeologists have wondered for years why these weapons were created and to this day all we have is tales of Giants living there without any proof. Some of the things science can’t explain are very simple things, things humans have been doing since their existence. I am talking about yawning. You would think by now this mystery would have been solved and yet not only do they not know why we yawn; they don’t know why it makes others yawn when they see it. There are so many mysteries like this which are based on simple things. Take ice for example, scientists really don’t know why ice is slippery. We all know it is very slippery and we probably have our own theories about this, but scientifically speaking there doesn’t seem to be an answer. There is a city in India which is known for its beautiful stone columned temples. What scientists have been trying to figure out is how the people of that time could have carved those beautiful columns because no chisels or metal tools have ever been found in the area and it’s to be noted even with all our tools we could build these beautiful columns today, it wouldn’t be easy since they are composed of many intricate designs. This type of puzzle exists in many other areas of the planet which are even far older than the Indian city which only dates back about a thousand years. Intricate carvings have been found in stone temples which are at least 10 to 12,000 years old. The problem is metal tools which would have been needed to do the work only date back to approximately 5000 BC. The earth can be a very puzzling place.
